Ingredients
1 3/4 c all purpose flour
3 T. granulated sugar
2 1/2 t baking powder
1/4 t salt
1/3 c butter (85 grams) cold
1 egg beaten
1/2 c “goodies” - chocolate chips, currants, or other dried fruits
4-6 T heavy cream or half and half
1 egg beaten to brush scones
1-2 t decorator’s sugar
Preparation
Preheat oven to 450 degrees
In bowl combine flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Cut butter into flour mixture until it resembles fine crumbs. Stir in egg, “goodies” and just enough of the cream or half and half so dough leaves side of bowl. Turn dough onto lightly floured surface. Kneed lightly ten times. Shape as desired making 10 scones. Place on ungreased cookie sheet (doubled). Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with sugar. Bake for 10-12 minutes. Remove from oven when golden grown and serve immediately.
