Ingredients
1 stick butter
2C sugar
2C water
1/2 C shortening
1-1/2 C Self Rising flour (add 2 tsp baking power and 1/2 tsp salt if using all purpose flour instead)
1/3 C milk
1 can apple pie filling (chop it up alittle)
1 tsp cinnamon
Preparation
Heat oven 350, melt the stick of butter in a 13x9x2 glass baking dish. Heat sugar and water in medium sauce pan till dissolves, set aside. Cut shortening into flour with pastry blender or two knives unti lmixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add milk and stir with a fork until dough leaves sides of bowl. Turn dough out onto lightly floured surface and knead gently until smooth. Roll out to a 12x10x1/4-inch rectangle. Spread the apple mixture evenly over dough and roll up jelly-roll style beginning with long side. Press edges to seal. Cut into @16 slices, each @ 1/2in thinck. Arrange slices in pan with melted butter. pour sugar sytrup around and over rolls. Bake 40-45 min till lightly golden brown. Cool.
