Ingredients
Filling
6 apples
1/2 cup sugar
1 tea vanilla
1/2 tea cinnamon
1/2 tea nutmeg
Topping
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
3/4 cup flour
1/2 cup brown sugar
3/4 cup rolled oats
1/2 stick butter chilled & quartered
1/2 cup water
1 tea salt
2 tea vanilla
1 tea cinnamon
1/2 tea nutmeg
Optional
raw sugar on top
good vanilla ice cream or gelato
Preparation
Preheat oven to 350 Lightly butter casarole dish Peel apples and cut into bite size portions or slivers Mix apples with Filling ingredients Mix dry Toppings ingredients in separate bowl (walnuts, flour, brown sugar, oats, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg) Mix in butter with hands Add vanilla to 1/2 cup water and set aside.
Bake for approx 15 minutes, then add vanilla water to any parts that are dry. Add more water if necessary. Bake for approx. 45 additional minutes
Optional: sprinkle raw sugar over top about half way through baking for a crispy finish Serve with good vanilla ice cream, gelato, or yogart
