Ingredients
FILLING:
6 green apples
2tbs apple juice
1tbs lemon juice
50g brown sugar
50g raisins or sultanas
1/2 tsp ground cloves
2 tsp cinnamon
pinch of salt
Nob of butter
CRUMBLE
170g plain flour
170g oats
65g chopped pecans or walnuts
150g butter
160g cassonade brown sugar
1tsp salt
Preparation
Peel, core, chop and cook apples with all the other filling ingredients. (Chop each apple into quarters, and then each quarter into 3 so that the chunks aren’t too small.) Cook till soft but still with some firmness. You don’t want apple sauce!
Mix the flower, oats, salt and sugar - and then rub in the butter until the mixture is grainy. Add the nuts.
Put the apples into a dish - maybe 20cm diameter - and pour the crumble on top. Don’t press it down.
Bake at 180 celsius for 30 minutes - or until the top is golden.
Serve with vanilla ice cream or marscapone cream.
