Ingredients
3/4 cup all purpose flour
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
1/4 cup chopped nuts
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/4 tsp allspice
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1 egg
1 cup applesauce
1 tsp vanilla
1/4 cup buttermilk
Preparation
Topping: Combine 1/4 cup flour, brown sugar, 2 tbsp butter, and nuts in a bowl with fingers until crumbly. Set aside.
Cake:
- In a large bowl, combine 1 1/2 cup flour, white sugar, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Melt remaining butter and mix into flour mixture.
- Add egg, applesauce, vanilla, and buttermilk. Mix with hand mixer until well blended.
- Pour into greased 9"x9"x2" pan and sprinkle with the topping.
- Bake at 375 deg F for 30 minutes. Let cool a few minutes and serve warm or at room temperature.
