Ingredients
5 large apples, peeled, chopped into 1/2 inch slices
1/2 cup apple cider
1 cinnamon stick
pinch of nutmeg
~1 tablespoon of sugar (used 1.5 and it was a little too sweet for me)
~1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice.
Preparation
Put apples, cider, cinnamon stick, and sugar in a large saucepan. Bring to a boil, and then cover and lower heat. Simmer, stirring occasionally, for 20 to 25 minutes, or until apples are tender. (If sauce begins to stick to the bottom of the pan, add 2 to 4 tablespoons more cider.)
Remove from heat; discard cinnamon stick. Stir in lemon juice to taste. Mash with potato masher if desired.
