Ingredients

8 teaspoons unsalted butter, softened

2 tablespoons packed light-brown sugar

8 very small red apples, such as Macoun, Winesap, or McIntosh, cored

8 small cinnamon sticks

1/2 cup heavy cream

Preparation

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Put butter and sugar into a small bowl. Beat with a wooden spoon until pale and fluffy.

Place apples in a 9-by-13-inch glass baking dish. Place a teaspoon of butter mixture and a cinnamon stick in center of each apple. Bake until apples begin to soften, 20 to 25 minutes. Serve warm with a drizzle of cream.
